Southeast Austin Corridor

About Mustang Ridge, TX

Welcome to Mustang Ridge, a small city spanning Travis, Bastrop, and Caldwell counties southeast of Austin, along the State Highway 130 corridor.

Mustang Ridge is a city in Central Texas whose boundaries span three counties—Travis, Bastrop, and Caldwell—positioning it on the southern edge of the Austin metropolitan area. The community is small in its core population but geographically expansive, having grown through annexation and new development as the State Highway 130 corridor transformed southeast Travis County. The 2010 census counted 861 residents, and the city's footprint has since extended across county lines as the region around Austin has expanded. Transportation has been the engine of Mustang Ridge's growth. State Highway 130, a regional tollway, passes directly through the community, connecting the Austin area south toward Seguin and Interstate 10. The segment from SH 71 to US 183 near Mustang Ridge opened in 2008, and a 41-mile extension from Mustang Ridge to I-10 in Seguin followed in 2012. That corridor turned a quiet rural area into one of Central Texas' growth routes, bringing new housing and development to the community's doorstep. Education and services connect Mustang Ridge to the surrounding region. The Travis County portion of the city is served by Del Valle Independent School District, which educates students from Mustang Ridge, Creedmoor, and other southeast Travis County communities. Other portions of the city fall within neighboring districts that correspond to the county lines it crosses. For residents, Mustang Ridge offers a low-density, semi-rural setting within commuting distance of downtown Austin and Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. The community's growth mirrors the larger transformation of the Austin metro area, as farmland and pasture give way to new housing along the corridor. Its multi-county boundaries and tollway access make it a distinctive, transitional place on Austin's southern edge, where the region's rural past and suburban future meet.

City Guide

About Mustang Ridge

Real Estate & Housing

Mustang Ridge's housing reflects its position on Austin's growing southern edge. The community includes a mix of older, semi-rural homes and newer residential development tied to the expansion of the State Highway 130 corridor. Larger lots and acreage are part of the area's heritage, though newer subdivisions have introduced more conventional single-family housing as the region has grown. The market is oriented toward detached, owner-occupied single-family homes, and the city's three-county footprint gives it a varied, transitional housing landscape. For buyers, Mustang Ridge represents an evolving corridor where rural character and new suburban development meet.

Neighborhoods

Mustang Ridge is not a single conventional subdivision but a city whose limits span parts of three counties along the State Highway 130 corridor. The community includes older semi-rural homesteads and newer residential development that has followed the tollway's construction. Its neighborhoods are spread across the Travis, Bastrop, and Caldwell county lines, giving the city a dispersed, transitional character rather than a unified downtown. The SH-130 corridor serves as the organizing spine of the area, with residential pockets connected to the highway and to the nearby communities of Creedmoor and Del Valle within the broader southeast Austin region.

Lifestyle in Mustang Ridge

Mustang Ridge sits at the edge of Austin's growth, where the metro area gives way to the open countryside of southeast Travis County. The community offers a sparse suburban and semi-rural feel, with most residents owning their homes and commuting into Austin for work and amenities. The rapid expansion of the SH-130 corridor has brought new housing and a changing landscape to the area, yet Mustang Ridge retains a low-density, transitional character distinct from Austin's urban core. For those seeking a foothold on the southern edge of the Austin region, the community offers convenience to the city with room to spread out.

Schools & Education

The Travis County portion of Mustang Ridge is served by Del Valle Independent School District, a growing district based in southeast Travis County that also serves Austin, Creedmoor, Garfield, and other nearby communities. Within the district, Creedmoor Elementary School serves the Mustang Ridge area, with students continuing to the district's middle and high schools. Because the city spans three counties, other portions of Mustang Ridge fall within the school districts that correspond to Bastrop and Caldwell counties. This multi-district arrangement reflects the community's sprawling, cross-county boundaries and its position within a rapidly growing region.

Getting Around

State Highway 130 is Mustang Ridge's defining transportation asset. The tollway passes through the community and links it northward into the Austin area and southward to Seguin and Interstate 10, with segments opening in 2008 and 2012 that reshaped the corridor. U.S. Route 183 and other area roads provide additional connections to the region, and Austin-Bergstrom International Airport lies within a short drive. This highway access has made Mustang Ridge a strategic point along one of Central Texas' principal growth corridors, giving residents direct routes to Austin, San Antonio, and points between.

Parks & Recreation

Recreation for Mustang Ridge residents draws on the Austin region's parks and green spaces. The community's semi-rural setting along Onion Creek and its proximity to southeast Travis County offer open space and outdoor access close to home. McKinney Falls State Park and the broader Austin parks system lie within a short drive, providing hiking, swimming, and camping. The city's location on the southern edge of Austin also puts downtown Austin's cultural and recreational amenities within easy reach, while the open countryside of Caldwell and Bastrop counties offers additional rural recreation to the south and east.
